Guilt is such a strong emotion...It can weigh you down and work on your mind...It embeds itself into your memories and plagues even your subconscious. Who has not felt the burden of guilt? I know I have felt it...I know what kind of emotion guilt is intimately...Guilt from small things I wish I had done or had not done...Guilt from big things I wish I had done or had not done...Guilt can come from any act that we know we should have behaved differently at...It does not matter whether that act is a big huge act of betrayal against someone or against yourself...It can come from the small things as well as the large meaningful things...
Why is it that the mind can play such tricks on you that can cut you to your very core? Guilt is right up there with love on a level of intensity. I am even sure that guilt can be more intense than love in the right circumstances. I guilt myself over the trivial and the things that carry important significance...
I am wandering then where this guilt comes from...it is in us from birth...inherited as a human condition?.
What purpose does it serve? To keep us on our toes? To teach us lessons?
I guess like all emotions guilt has its place...But where does this predisposition to emotions come from...Yes it makes us human...Yes as humans we need emotions..But what gets me is where in the chain of evolution did we go from being just another animal to owning a whole range of emotions that can inadvertently effect our behavior in such ways...Did it start out as a learned trait and then become genetic? And why humans? I mean I know other animals have feelings and some on a level of our own...But why do we feel them so much deeper that it can effect our whole being...Is it actually a handicap or is it an ability that enhances our lives? I guess the answer is both....Depending on the time and place you have those feelings...
Its all a weighing it out in my mind thing...I gues it would also be unfair to state that other creatures do not feel the same as we do just because we can not see it at every turn...Maybe we are the only ones that "wear it on our sleeves" so to speak...
Anyways...Anyone else have anything to say on it..let me have it...I would be interested...
